Shepherd Festival is a 750 years old tradition of Turks. This festival is held in Hasanpasa Village of Burdur every year ( same festival is being made in Cal town of Denizli , Turkey as well ). Festival takes 2 days , first day starts with concerts, and entertainment for the public. Evening time of the first day is time for "Tostos" event which makes sheeps run on the road with their shepherds, the leader sheeps are painted after Tostos event. The paint they use, is provided by a type of red stone which is easily found in this region.Obviously this paint gives red colour to the leader sheeps. The herds take their places on the hill of competition at night time like the watchers. Most of the watchers spend the night on same hill with herds , next to the fires , or in the tents. Early in the morning around 5:00 , competition starts. The shepherds run at front of their herds into the small lake, the leader red painted sheep has to follow him, and has to jump into the water after him, then all other members of the herd. Once they all pass cross, they finish the stage . The fastest , and most cheered herd gets the reward.
