This female Belted Kingfisher was one of the most cooperative Kingfishers I have ever encounter. Males of this species have a white chest, without a rufous band. But may have rufous flanks and some reddish in blue chest band.
This gal was photographed at Castalia Pond. The pond does not freeze over in the winter, long after Lake Erie freezes over because it is a natural spring. With a supply of water above freezing year round, come winter time it is a magnet for waterfowl. Thanks for looking and comments are appreciated.
