Crimson-crested Woodpecker (Campephilus melanoleucus)

I photographed this gorgeous pair of Crimson-crested Woodpeckers (Campephilus melanoleucus) at the Pantanal. The female is the one on the right, with less red on the face. At first only the female was there, but I saw the male approaching. I couldn't believe when it perched on the same stick and started to climb it till it reached a perfect position. These are large woodpeckers that feeds chiefly on larvae of wood-boring beetles.
