An adult Bearded Vulture (wing span of up to 2.8m) landing at Giants Castle in the Drakensberg area of South Africa. The outdated name "Lammergeier" refers to the erroneous belief that the birds catches lambs as part of its diet. They feed only on carrion i.e. scraps of meat, skin and bone. The bird flying away in the foreground is a White-necked Raven.
