Jay and I decided to shoot the sunset on campus one day last week and we pretty much blew the sunset by not being in a good location. The sunset was amazing and we both were wishing we had went to the parking garage. But as soon as we got to the location we were planning to shoot and saw it would be a bust for the sunset, we ran halfway across campus to shoot the sunset from the field you see in the distance here, hoping to compose a photo of Jesse Hall with the gorgeous sunset. Well those photos didn't turn out so hot. We kept moving, trying to find something to shoot while we still had a brilliant post-sunset sky. When we first got here to Tiger Plaza, there was a family playing around on the tiger. Thankfully they left when we started setting up our tripods and we shot at this location for a good 15 minutes while we tried different compositions. After that we shot our way back to the car during blue hour, where I made this photo of the MU bookstore, which is a personal favorite of mine right now.
This is a four exposure HDR. I've shot from this location at Tiger Plaza several times before, but have never had a sky this pretty nor a composition this strong. I'm glad I finally got lucky! It just goes to show that you should never give up on an awesome sunset. Even if you don't get the sunset itself, you can still make the most of the post-sunset colors.
