Locals call the old basalt quarry on the Bombo Headland "the Boneyard". These columns are sometimes confused with Cathedral Rock, which is about 1km north around the headland. The columns are not naturally made - they are the bits left over from quarrying. They were left to provide a barrier from the waves crashing into them. They also happen to provide a unique landscape for photography.
