The first day of the 2012 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta was called because of high winds.

The weather man didn't give day two much of a chance of getting off the ground either, but Mother Nature had her own ideas...and hundreds balloons were able to fly.

Me, I didn't get up at 3:30am for the second morning in a row, because I stupidly trusted the weather service and counted on the day's festivities being washed out again. That didn't happen we found out when we woke up and saw balloons already in the sky.

Rather than fight the crowds and traffic, I decided to find a different although much more distant vantage point than the up close and personal one that's available at the Balloon Park.

The clouds were unreal -- no, I mean those are the real clouds -- but they were incredible.

Yes, that is the sun trying to peak through. I couldn't see the disk with my naked eye, but the fast shutter speed did the trick, and gave me a visible sun and silhouetted balloons.
