This species is found in Colombia and Ecuador in the humid forests of the Andes.
Most of their plumage is indecent green, except for a white spot by the eye. Both male and female have whitetipped tails but the male has a larger and longer whitecap.
Hummingbirds are solitary and only come together during the mating season.. The males have no part in chosing the nest location, nor in the building of the nest. They also do not participate in the caring and raising of the chicks. The mother is the only caregiver and then after twenty days the chicks leave the nest.
The males are very territorial and with engage in aerial fights to keep intruders away from their feeding area,
