This was taken in Valdez during the salmon run. The bears here usually do not eat the fish, they squeeze the female salmon until the eggs come out and eat the eggs. They then leave the fish and go get another one. The fish don't go to waste though as the sea gulls are always happy to take the leftovers. This bear had emptied his fish and was looking to the stream for another. I would image when times are lean they eat more of the fish but at this time...Life was good.
