Here's a spot where you won't find 100+ photographers standing around. A great thing about Yosemite is there are many iconic spots but there are many other spots with elbow room. I was zipping around Yosemite that day shooting all the fall color in 2010 so this was composed very quickly as the light changes in the park very fast. On a weekday it's a heck of a lot easier to get around the park so you can be a little more productive and come back with a lot more keepers. I may have a found a great new place nearby to shoot the modern day Fire Fall on Horsetail Falls with some elbow room, image that.
This shot was initially bracketed but with newer processing technology I didn't need any bracketed shots so what you're seeing here is a single exposure with different processed RAW files layered in photoshop. Just used a brush to keep what I wanted with masks in photoshop. I get less noise this way in the shadows. I used LR4 for the initial RAW processing.
