One of my personal favourite images from my two week trip to Sumatra recently It’s taken 50 feet off the ground, I’m attached to a single rope while sitting in a climbing hardness, legs wrapped around a branch to steady mysel
f which enabled me to achieve enough shutter speed for this image.

We’d been watching this mother and baby for a while beforehand. Hearing the rustling of leaves and their movements. With Darma’s help predicting their path as they were feeding and Osmand my climbing expert guide we went ahead and set up a quick, single rope system so I could just climb up a little into the tree canopy.

I saw all sorts of things as I climbed-ants, bugs etc but I could hear the noises of these Orangutans getting louder and heading to this small clearing, so I didn’t have time to waste. I had my wide angle and my aim was to capture this amazing rainforest habitat with these Orangutans in.

And this is the result, a real bonus was the baby looking down towards his mum in a small natural clearing of light. Such a special moment to see and witness.
