The 36-year-old has been with partner Jools Poore for 20 years– having met her through mutual friends in their hometown of Oxford – and the couple have two children together, Raya, nine, and three-year-old Tiger Coombes – who has “loved” spending the last two years at home with his family working on his debut solo album Here Come the Bombs – explains: “I suppose 20 years is a long time to be going out with someone when you’re in a band, but I always wanted a solid base to come home to. “There was never a time I wished I was single. I’ve always wanted it. It feels true and right –and when it feels right you don’t want to fuck it up. “Touring at the age of 16 and 17 is mental, and fast living going from town to town and you get locked in a bubble. But we had a good bubble, everyone was on a level, so nobody totally lost it going into full ‘rock and roll mode’. I find that a bit wanky, actually. You’re in a band, is that an excuse to shag everyone and get a cocaine habit? Come on! “But it’s been great to have a family around me to go back to when I finish touring. In a way that’s kept me grounded. You can still party, and we have loads over the years, but I’ve always had a way of doing things and sticking to it.”
