Winter Park, CO
This shot was a journey. I drove up a mountain road in a Chrysler 200, bouldering over rocks, washed out trails, and into areas probably not intended for that poor rental car at 4am in the morning. It was about 27 degrees.
The day prior, we had met friends at Winter Park ski resort, where a helicopter was helping with logging operations at the top of the mountain. Just at sunrise, I could hear the helicopter and search the distant peaks to see it arrive, but I couldn't locate it. It took me a few minutes to figure it out. I had to look DOWN to see the helicopter back at work at the top of the mountain. I was up pretty high.
It was cold, but it was gorgeous and worth it. I can't quite describe it, but as night passed into day, I could see the color change bands in the atmosphere much more distinctly than anything I've seen before.
