This is the stunning spiral staircase at Heal's Department Store on Tottenham Court Road (Near Goodge Street Underground Station). When I first entered the store I thought the chap that said hello to me as soon as I entered the store knew exactly what I have come to the store to do as I had a massive tripod strapped to the side of my bag but however it did'nt appear to to be the case and I also did have a look at some of the very nice (and expensive stuff) they had in there before taking images of the staircase. It too me a little while to find this staircase as I originally came across another staircase.
When I eventually got here I found out sadly that you can not go right to the bottom or right to the top as its for staff only so where this image was taken I think there was another flight or two of spirals but I am very happy with the way this has come out. I originally took a few images without anyone in and then this chap started walking up the stairs and managed to get some nice motion blur which I think works well. Also really like the detail in the image of the worn part of each wooden stair where the varnish has worn away from people walking on it. I think its great that something as stunning as this is still used in everyday life of a building.
This is a non HDR image and with regard to post processing I did not have to do too much. I straightened and boosted the oranges and blues, added vignette and sharpened accordingly. One problem I was getting was the bit right at the bottom. In the original version it was completely black with no detail in however a bit of dodging and burning sorted that out and this was the result, managed to bring back some detail.
I will try and catch up with all your photostreams today as I am little bit behind but I hope you all have a great Wednesday.
