Oregon’s iconic Painted Hills are best shot at sunset. Unfortunately, Alex Noriega and I were shut out by clouds and looming rain for our crack at sundown. Then rain poured from the sky down on our tents for much of the night. I was certain a morning sunrise shoot would also be a no go. But, as so often is the case in the eastern part of Oregon, the clouds lifted before sunrise and allowed me to grab a somewhat unconventional take on this amazing place. The rabbit brush had enough bloom left to capture the back lighting perfectly as the sun poked above the horizon.
