Some Native American tribes believe the owl are messengers of death.
Apache for example believed that dreaming of an owl signified an approaching death.
Others, like Newuks, believed that after death, the brave and virtuous became Great Horned Owls. The wicked, however, were doomed to become Barn Owls.
