I spent my childhood in the small town of Taiping in Perak, Malaysia. While the town was mostly a sleepy, aging town, it did have one main star attraction, the Lake Gardens, where I spent many childhood days running around the park.

The park is also home to the iconic "Rain Trees", a collection of hundred-year-old trees that arc from one side of the road, over the road, and into the waters of the lake, providing a much-appreciated shelter from the hot, sweltering tropical sun.
