On the same morning I made the Chatham Light Silhouette I also made this photo before the sun came up. Right after pulling into the parking lot, ecstatic to be photographing my first lighthouse, I set up my tripod, aimed it at the lighthouse and let it rip. I'm not sure whether to blame the early hour, the lack of coffee, or my excitement but this photo was crooked as hell when I brought it into iPhoto. Luckily that was the only adjustment I had to make.

The long exposure turned the rotation of the lighthouse lamp into a glowing torus. I wish I could say this photo turned out exactly as I envisioned it but I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when I pressed the shutter; all I knew was that I was going to get a long exposure of this rotating light. The results were better than I could have hoped.

I think the only thing that could have made this photo cooler would have been if all the lights in the house and the downstairs light in the lighthouse had been on as well. I'm pretty sure the Coast Guard folks on duty wouldn't have appreciated me knocking on the doors and asking them to do that for me though...
