A perfectly clear night while staying in the hut at Schwarzee, near Zermatt, Switzerland, gave me the opportunity to take a photo that I had pre-visualized prior to my trip through Switzerland; A star trail over Mount Matterhorn.
I blended two exposures together to make the final image. First I took a 30 minute exposure for the star trail at around 2.30am when there are less planes flying around. The camera was then left in position while I grab some sleep. A second exposure was taken at around 6am when the early dawn light was starting to reveal some detail in the mountains lower regions.
Basic image processing in Lightroom 4. The two exposures blended in Photoshop.
