The Moon setting over the Eminija Indian Burial Mounds. The Eminija Mounds were built by Native American people of the Late Woodland Period and may date from 500 to 1000 A.D. They are sharply defined and highly visible though some have worn down from their original height. Eminija is an Indian term which means "where the water splits the rocks," hence, Split Rock. These mounds were built by pre-Sioux Indians. Still very visible today from the road side.
