First attempt at shooting very long exposure at night... We drove all day that day, and wanted to reach the Devil Marbles campsite for the night, without really knowing what to expect. We finally made it and after a light dinner and a few bacardi-coke, once the local dingos went away, and once the full moon rose up high enough, I decided to explore our surroundings... the light from the moon was directly lighting up these red rocks and I decided to make these my subject. All I had was a small travel tripod, those ones where the feet can be oriented in all directions... not ideal for very long exposure, but better than nothing! In this shot, I like the contrast that the ute and the caravan give to the desert feel of the area,,, there were only a couple of other cars on the whole site that night.
Unfortunately, the 450D iso is limited to 1600 and I only have the IS standard lenses kit, and I had to get over the 30 sec to have enough exposure.. not ideal from a noise perspective, and also I had to keep holding the button... a slightly higher grade camera or lense would have probably given a much better shot, and avoided the star tails too...
