I like to take photos at night. I like the unpredictable nature of the light and shadow, the colors that I don’t see with my self-correcting eyes. It is not a very safe thing to be doing, so it is done quickly and as inconspicuously as possible. No DSLR being flashed around, just my little black camera. Any surface becomes a tripod. A few clicks and I’m gone.

Philly has the largest mural arts program in the U.S. Started in 1984, there are now over 3,000 murals in the city. These murals are created by the people, for the people. If interested, you can read more about them at the muralarts dot org web site. It’s a great program doing a lot of wonderful work.

While I have photographed some of them during the day, it is at night that they surprise you the most. You turn a corner and rather than another dark street and another drab side of a building, you get this creative, collaborative work shining down on you.

Questa serie è per coloro che trovano la luce nelle tenebre e le tenebre nella luce.
