The Siberian tiger is the largest living cat in the world. It is an animal with a rare grace and beauty. Unfortunately, he is just as rare in the wild so that the majority of these tigers live in zoos. The rare Siberian tiger does not live in Siberia, but in the Amur area, where there is snow most of the year.

Since the Siberian tiger must be able to live at temperatures of minus 45 degrees Celsius, he has a denser coat, and longer hair than the other tigers. He is also the only tiger species that has one to five inches thick fat on his flanks and belly which protect him against the extremely low temperatures and icy winds.

The Tigers have to eat at least 9-10 kilos of meat daily to survive in this frigid climate.

It is estimated that there are approximately between 430 and 500 of these mighty hunters in the wild.

The most immediate threat to the survival of Amur tigers is poaching to supply demand for tiger parts for use in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
