Thought I'd give you a little break from my beloved felines and reintroduce you to some of my primate friends from Khao Kheow Open Zoo here in Thailand. This is an image I captured back in October of a mother Red-Shanked Douc Langur and her young son.
Red-Shanked Douc Langurs are quite possibly the most beautiful and colourful of all langurs. Langurs are a subfamily of the colobinae belonging to the the Old World monkey family, and there are a number of different species found throughout Asia and particularly Southeast Asia. Red-Shanked Douc Langurs are native to the rainforests of Cambodia, Laos, as well as Vietnam, but are sadly another wonderful specie that is listed as Endangered and their survival in the wild hangs in the balance.
The name Douc – actually pronounced “dook” - is the Vietnamese word for monkey.
Thank you for your interest and wishing you all a splendid weekend :^)
