Now I have come full circle, back to the original inspiration for this series, Hard Rock’s Gibson guitar. I will confess that I have been to a number of Hard Rock Cafes and purchased t-shirts, sweatshirts, pins and hats. I was a walking ad for this place. They owe me. * A classic line from the movie, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ when Nigel is talking about the band’s equipment knobs. I thought it was great that Hard Rock Vegas added it to their signage - just for the minority that notice and get the joke.

Courtesy of here is a sequence of lines for all you Spinal Tap fans:

Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

It doesn’t get any better than that. Great movie - and another promo from me.

Last summer, after I posted an image in here of the Gibson Les Paul guitar at the Philly Hard Rock Café**, I thought about product placement we photographers sometimes inadvertently capture as we go about our business of creating images.

I thought, why should I sell my image files for two bucks ($2 USD) on 500, when I could include big time companies in my images and see if they will throw some appreciation my way? Why should Hollywood be the only one getting in on this lucrative action?

So here are some images taken long before I ever had this product placement thought. How many of your images have advertising built into them in some fashion, be it food, clothing logos, a city, a billboard , ad juxtaposition on a street shot, a tourist attraction….?

These images “sponsored” by….. Prada, Pepsi, Dior, & The Hard Rock Café, courtesy of the fabulous city of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Canon. Travel arrangements by Expedia….. see where this is going? Lots of companies involved in bringing you these images.

**That sentence counts as promotion for four different entities. Count them. I hope no one believes I am serious, just sharing my observation and images.
