According with the local tradition, the very small but beautiful St. Andrew´s church in Beja (south of Portugal) was founded in 1162 by the king D. Sancho I, to celebrate the victory over the muslim troops. It is said that was in this particular place that D. Sancho I prayed for victory before the battle. The oriiginal builiding is no longer seen. A new temple was built in the beginning of the XVI century, by the king D. Manuel I.
