Impression from my visit to the "Ir. D. F. Woudagemaal" in Lemmer. The woudagemaal is the largest steam-operated pumping station still in use in the World. Due to high operational costs, it's only operated about once a year, when the regular pumping capacity isn't sufficient to keep the province of Friesland dry. In early February this year it was running for three days, which was quite unique, because only just a little more than a month earlier it had also been in operation, around Christmas 2012. The 2012 run attracted an incredible number of visitors. This time the amount of interest was more managable. These are some impressions from my visit. I couldn't have wished for better weather on saturday.
