I finally completed the heroes in a half shell with the addition of Donatello a few weeks ago. Some of you may remember a photo I posted on facebook not too long ago called the “Replacement” in which I used the hulk in place of my incomplete set. Now that I have all four brothers together I wanted to get a group shot done.
Last week Chris posted a sweet low-key shot of TMNT character Splinter to counter versus my usual well lit shots. Thinking about this for a bit I realized he was onto something and that these guys are ninjas and use darkness to hide themselves from their enemies and their mutant appearance from the public. So I wanted to show Chris another trick up my sleeve…light painting. In a nutshell the trick is to paint the subject with your light by moving it across the areas you want lit while using a longer shutter speed on your camera to get a dramatic effect. This shot is a 2.5 second exposure and lit with one small LED flashlight from above, but looks like four when I’m done.
See, I’m not all flash! Get it? Flash
Well that was a bad enough joke to end this post with so I believe the ball is in your court now Chris and no worries not all my photos will be TMNT related. I have a few more compositions in my head I want to perfect before I move on to a shot I’ve wanted to accomplish with Lego Indiana Jones for about a year now, so look out for it in the coming months.
