Lily is here on holiday. If you remember from a previous photograph of mine, she lives in Japan. And as all good Japanese do, she does not bring her outside shoes inside, but instead leaves them in the genkan.
Back home in Cape Town she can’t understand why we would want to keep our outside shoes on inside the house.
Here she is sitting at the doorway, taking stock of the shoes that she has requisitioned from unsuspecting family members. And the direction the shoes are facing in? Of course. Indicating that we were already inside the house when we were collared and deshoed by a very determined four year old.
