Ok the last in my little series of small birds hovering... I do have rather a lot of them lol!! I have spent many an hour in a very cold hide at Slimbridge experimenting with camera settings to get the highest 'hit' chance with these gorgeous little birds.... the conclusion, well I can only answer for the Mark III.... but for AF menu, for these small fast birds I would definitely go for Instantly Focus on Subjects entering AF area.... now if doing Red Kites I would NOT use that selection, but in this case it really did seem to get the best results..... Trust me I have blown so many shots by going through these options...... I also used Servo and had all AF points active.... I did try just one focal live point dead centre but found having them all active worked the best. Normally I would never shoot anything with the AF point dead centre because I shoot with composition in mind.... However the AF is most reactive in dead centre and for this challenge I needed all the help I could get......

Right that is the results. The heads of the two birds are pin sharp; if I had the speed at 1600 there would be no blur but I do prefer some movement...... Oh and this is me just sharing my photographic journey, not an expert opinion, trust me on that one LOL!!!

Oh the b/g are reeds and these are two male Chaffinches!
