The Brera art gallery in Milan is one of the most significant art collections in Italy. It is housed in a former Jesuit palazzo from the late 16th-early 17th century, which became an important cultural centre. After the Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773 the Academy of Fine Arts was established in the building.
In the courtyard stands a statue of Napoleon by Canova (1809).
