Consecrated on January 1st, 378, by Bassian, first bishop of Lodi, the "Basilica Apostolorum" later hosted the relics of the Saint himself, and was named after him.Between the 11th and 12th century the citizens of Lodi renovated their cathedral in the new Romanic style, to celebrate the rise of the city among the affluent Comuni of Lombardy. But their rise clashed with their powerful neighbour, Milan, whose citizens besieged and razed Lodi to the ground in 1111, sparing only the cathedral.
