The Little Ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius) was absent from breeding in Britain until 1938, since then it has successfully colonised a large part of England and Wales thanks to man-made habitats such as gravel pits. The chicks leave the simple nest of small stones within a few hours and are almost impossible too see due to their camouflage.
