During a outdoor party this summer, an industrial light was used to light up the activities. It attracted a lot of flying insects, so I took a few long exposure shots. With no tripod, the longest useable shot was 1/2 second. Most of the insects seem to fly in a confused manner. If you look closely at some of the trails, you can see the individual wing-beats. This was an eye-opener for me; some of them alternate wings, flapping one at a time. Until I seen this shot, I always thought they would flap both wings simultaneously like a bird. Very cool.
