Casa Milà or a.k.a as La Pedrera (meaning 'The Quarry'), Barcelona, Catalonia, SpainWell this is I suppose technically my first image upload from my trip to Barcelona, you couldn't really count yesterdays upload from my Barcelona trip as I was still in the UK but then again it is the start of your holidays :-).Anyway this is the house or group of apartments called Casa Milà or often referred to as La Pedrera designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. It was the first time I had seen one of his buildings in the flesh during my visit and I was completely stunned and amazed. The level of detailing and craftsmanship that had gone into this building. You must remember that this building was built in the early 1900s so was very radical for its day, very futuristic looking I suppose and I believe that not everyone warmly welcomed it to the street it was built on.This image your looking at here is the looking up at the atrium from within the building, each level of windows is roughly one apartment I believe as you could only walk around one apartments so sadly I didn't have anything else to compare it to. One thing that amazed me going around this building is how Gaudí constructed such detailed work just using fairly basic building materials like stone, wood, iron and broken pottery. Imagine if this guy was alive now with modern materials and computers etc what would he design if this was his vision in the 1900s.Now if your planning to visit this building when you go to Barcelona by all means do but I recommend you go to first the other Gaudí house on the Passeig de Gràcia, just few blocks down called Casa Batlló. It is even more impressive than this one he built but it does get alot more busier than this. I recommend get to the Casa Batlló first thing for when it opens and beat the crowds (especially if your a photographer) and then go to this one later on in the day. We did plan on doing this but I got the houses mixed up and ended up visiting the wrong house first, doh!
