Stamford is best known for its medieval core of 17th–18th century stone buildings, older timber framed buildings and five medieval parish churches. A settlement has existed here in Stamford since around AD 60, and by the Middle Ages it had become famous for its production of wool and the woollen cloth known as Stamford cloth - which was well known in Venice during the reign of King Henry III.Stamford's uniformity in architectural design gives it a very "old" feel, and it's a lovely place to take a stroll on a sunny spring day.
