“When he shall die,Take him and cut him out in little stars,And he will make the face of heaven so fineThat all the world will be in love with nightAnd pay no worship to the garish sun.”~ William Shakespeare, Romeo and JulietFinally, I got to see the beautiful Milky Way again. Its' been so many months since I went out for a night shoot so I was itching to go again. This is the famous Bixby Bridge in Big Sur.I've seen tons and tons of pictures of this Bridge taken at sunset or twilight. Now, I wanted a picture of the bridge for myself, and I wanted one that was unique. The solution? Simple. Put the Milky Way on top of the bridge. I know this shot hasn't been done as often :)My friend and I woke up at 4am on a cold morning and drove to the bridge. We got there at 4:30. It was pitch black. We couldn't see anything let alone the bridge. There was no one there and no cars were passing by! The sounds of the ocean were the only thing that told us that we were at the coast. Armed with a headlamp, and jacket I walked to the overlook and set up shop. I swear I heard some snarls from the bushes behind, I flashed my headlamp at the bush and a rustling of the leaves later, whatever it was, it was gone. I was now really scared! But, in any case I had to take the picture. So for the next 2 hours, I stood in the cold occasionally checking the exposure to make sure the composition had no poles, bushes sticking into the frame and that the stars were in focus. It was a surreal experience!
