Cootes Paradise is a 600-hectare wildlife sanctuary located at the Western tip of Lake Ontario. It is the largest wetland and an important migratory bird stopover. The land is owned and managed by the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) and was named after Captain Thomas Coote, a British naval officer who enjoyed the abundant waterfowl while on leave from his army duties in the 1780s.
