Another engaging expression from a Western Lowland Gorilla, a female this time, that I was fortunate to capture during a visit to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in the southeast of England last March.

Western Lowland Gorillas are the smallest of gorilla subspecies and, due to hunting and disease, are Critically Endangered (CR) in the wild, but their numbers are still much higher than their comparatively larger relatives, the Mountain Gorillas.

As their name suggests they prefer lowland areas, their natural habitat is forested and ranges through the central African countries of Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
