A panorama of the Milkyway over the village of Gokyo, Nepal. I awoke at 1:45 am and having packed my gear before going to bed at about 7pm, I headed out into the cold, thin, night air. The village was quiet, not even the yaks were stirring as I made my way through the tea houses and down to the causeway where a stream meets Lake Dudh Pokhari. From there the trail heads up Gokyo RI. I climbed about one third of the way to the summit, as I wanted to be high enough to be looking down on the glacier and the surrounding mountains, and I knew I wanted to be shooting at about 3am to get the best of the stars before the sun started to shine them out. It was cold, about -15 I'm guessing! This is a 27 image stitched panorama and the original merged file is 122Mpxl (large overlap between rows).Raw files processed in Lightroom 4, panorama stitched in Autopano Pro, minor adjustments in Photoshop CS5.
