As a child I took a bus to elementary school for seven long years. I couldn’t wait until junior high when I would no longer have to take the bus to school. In the city where I live, yellow school buses are part of the daily commuting experience and normally do not generate an emotional response from me.When I look at this photograph however, I feel something. I feel tension. The bus is completely out of context. I associate school buses with lots of kids, lots of noise, lots of chaos.I am used to seeing school buses in the city where they start their routes in clusters like yellow ducklings and eventually fan out like honey bees. This tension makes the photograph interesting. It makes me look harder. So hard that I now have to ask…“Why are the windows on that yellow school bus black?”
