The STAG BEETLE (Lucanus cervus)is the largest terrestrial insect in Europe. They can grow up to 10 cm, though the females are smaller. Unfortunatelly they can be rarely found because of their more and more decreasing habitat. In the last ten years I met them only twice. Now I was very lucky as passing by an oak forest I came across a female stag beetle. Supposing if there is one, I can find more I put everything away and spent 6 to 8 hours a day with trying to find them. During this time I succeeded in watching and getting shots of several of these beetles.
