The Djemaa el Fna is the central market in Marrakech / Morocco, whereas the meaning of the name is still not really clear. In Arabic, Djemaa el Fna means "meeting of the dead". This name comes from the fact that at ancient times the sultans used the space as a place of execution and presented impaled heads of their enemies to the audience.

Today the place is valued for its oriental atmosphere, alike by tourists and locals. In the evenings you'll see a hustle and bustle consisting of jugglers and snake charmers, readers, fortune tellers, artists and musicians. There are booths where culinary specialties of the region are served. So, definitely a nice place to go!
