The wide Hvítá rushes southward. About a kilometer above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 m (60 ft) wide, and 2.5 km in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river. I was extremely lucky that day! When I arrived to the car park there was a snowstorm and I could not see more than 5 yards visibility was that bad. Nevertheless I decided to walk down to see the falls and had taken my camera with me as well. Suddenly the snow stopped falling and the weather cleared out for no more then 3 minutes. I was frantically trying to get a few good shots of the waterfall. I suggest to see this picture in the "lightbox" mode (by clicking on it) as this will bring out colours and details. For more of my artwork please visit my FB page:www. to read about my photo tours and books please visit my
