It’s not often I use the word “Epic”, especially when it comes to my luck, but this morning really had it all going. I was with Kevin McNeal, and this particular morning we had gotten off to a bit of a late start, I can’t remember if it was Kevin’s sweet-tooth or mine that needed one last donut, let’s just say it was Kevin for sake of argument. We had a ways to travel to Steptoe Butte, so we pounded down the sweets and took off. As we were traveling dawn began to reveal the start of some good looking clouds towards the horizon. We were about 15 miles away and the clouds continued to spread and the first signs of pink hue began to emerge, things were really starting to look stellar. Kevin at this point was petal on the floor, balls to both walls, we were not about to miss this. We had just reached the backside of Steptoe and Kevin says, let’s get out and “run” or we are going to miss everything! Ran we did, huffing all the way as we did a diagonal approach around to the West side of Steptoe. At this point the clouds were in “Near Epic” condition, so we frantically set up our gear, of course I had the wrong lens on so I fumbled with that the same time I was wiping the sweat that was pouring off my head and onto the camera. I look through the viewfinder and WTF my glasses are totaled fogged up, I clean them looked again, and holy sh#*%t now the viewfinder is fogged so a turned on my lcd and starting shooting. I looked over at Kevin, with this huge smile on his face (along with powdered sugar remnants) and we knew he made the right call to “run for it”.
