Námaskarð is one heck of a surreal place in winter. The Geo-thermally active region, which is painted yellow in the summer due to sulfur deposits, is covered under a white sheet of two feet deep snow. The angry earth still billows acrid sulfurous gases along with steam, from the various bubbling mud pots dotting the region. These steam swirls with the early morning mist & the sun kissed crimson clouds in a blue sky. There were only five of us to witness this truly magical landscape on that -15 degrees Celsius early morning, but totally enchanting!
