Laupahoehoe Point, big island Hawaii. Pronounced Luh - pah - hoy - hoy. Correct me if I'm wrong you Hawaiians out there. :)

Fantastic little state park on the Hamakua coast side of the big island. Lots of very craggy volcanic rock formations jutting out of the water that get pounded by big surf. What's even better is that you can park your car right at the waters edge. My car was probably 20 yards from this spot.

It was a perfect camping spot. It's the site of a small community that suffered a tragic loss of many lives from a psunami in 1946.

This image was a complicated blend. Since the sun was a bit high, the dynamic range was through the roof. Was still able to capture the full range in two exposures(thank you D600!). One for the sky, one for the rocks. Shot additional exposures for the sunstar, and splashing waves.
