Michigan Summer Nights Startrails. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, MI

The 45th parallel is just a few miles north of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The very low ambient light and often visible North Lights Aurora make it a great place for nighttime photography star trails. This time I was treated to a surprise on the lower left side of the image after processing the startrails. It took me a second but then I realized the neon green sparkling dots are from the numerous glowing lightning bugs during the hot summer night on the lake Michigan beach. Little surprises like this are what make nighttime photography so much fun! You just never know whats going to pop out in the digital darkroom that wasn't visible to the human eye in the field :)
