I've just got back from a great couple of days in Scotland and a fantastic visit to Bass Rock. The past two years both trips I have tried to go on have been cancelled last minute, but this year I was lucky!

The rock is home to an incredible 150,000 gannets. That is one massive colony!

Amongst all the noise, the gannets greet each other with what can only be described as loving affection. In this image you can see the two reaffirming their bond. On the left is the bird that has been waiting and looking after the chick, and on the right is the returning parent (who is much cleaner having been diving in the sea) and will now take over the "chick-minding" duties on the nest.
