The Milky Way and Tufas were made for each other. Shot this back in July with no moon and a ton of stars. I got there during the late afternoon and found the composition I liked then checked the direction and position of the Milky Way with a cool little app called “Star Walk” which takes much of the guess work out and saves having to discover 6 hours later when it is time to shoot that the Milky Way has already passed by your comp.
I had a buddy helping with light painting this scene and there was much trial and error. It is very difficult to get enough light on the Tufas in the background without burning the foreground ones. But finally found something I liked.
I shot this 15mm and f3.2, iso 2000 for 25 seconds.
